Computer Assisted Interviewing

CSU was the first survey organisation in the UK to move all of its survey activities to Computer Assisted Interviewing (CAI) in 1991 and now has 16 years experience in its development and use. Each of our survey interviewers are fully trained and competent with the use of Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI).

CSU uses BLAISE, the leading computer assisted interviewing software, which has been adopted by government social survey organisations around the world. BLAISE offers the flexibility in questionnaire design and data handling that is vital to the success of the large-scale household and individual surveys conducted by CSU.

The questionnaires, data handling and field management tools are designed and developed by CSU survey researchers directly and as a result an integrated and consistent approach is adopted on all survey research conducted by the Unit.
